Kukla's Korner Hockey

Morning Line

Earlier in the game, Carcillo, supposedly one of the toughest guys in the game, pretended to be hit in the face by Mike Mottau’s stick. Replays showed it wasn’t even close, even though Carcillo jerked his head back like he’d been bitten by a mamba. No penalty was called—indeed it was a rare moment the undisciplined Flyers weren’t whistled for an infraction Sunday as they took eight minors through the first two periods—which is perhaps the only reason the hockey gods, if they exist, allowed Carcillo his moment of joy 3:35 into the first overtime period.

Still, it’s the kind of play, especially for a tough guy, that is the hockey equivalent of knocking down an old lady for her purse.

added 12:16pm, On Coach’s Corner last night, Don Cherry addressed the diving going on.

That’s why for the league to be credible and back up their referees these fakers and divers have to be suspended.  It is very difficult for a referee to keep order when he can’t be sure whether a foul is legitimate or not.  I have seen Carcillo do this on several occasions it’s classless.

He’s an expert?  Yeah, we saw it on the replay.

Cherry would so much more credible if he singled out Ruutu, Spezza and Neil doing the exact same dive acts also.

Cherry is calling it like it is.

The defending champs should be acting like men, regardless of what other feeble team is attempting to do.  It was obvious that the Pens were told that if a hand goes on your back you are to throw yourself to the ground like a little girl on roller skates for the first time.

I have not seen a team in the east or west who dive like the Flyers.  It seems to be the entire roster, too.  I have seen these guys fall down like they have been shot too many times in the regular season, and they are doing it in the play-offs as well.  It is a real disservice to the game.
