“If (my next stop) is Columbus, I can tell you this: That hockey club is better than the one we took over in St. Louis. That club was way, way down the ladder. But this Blue Jackets team is not that far off. There are some pieces there to work with, absolutely. They’ve got some real players there.”

-John Davidson, who recently parted ways with the St. Louis Blues.  More on Davidson from Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Dispatch.

But this Blue Jackets team is not that far off. There are some pieces there to work with, absolutely. They’ve got some real players there.

So, let’s see what they have based on last year’s performances. Their top point-getter now is 37-year-old Vinnie Prospal with 55. Their top goal-scorer is Umberger with 20. Their top defenseman is the grossly overpaid James Wisniewski. Their #1 goaltender is either Bobrovsky or Mason. And they got “hosed” in the Nash trade.

If Davidson goes to Columbus, he’ll be the best guy in the BJ’s organization – on or off the ice. But that still won’t make them a contender anytime soon.

Davidson is delusional if he thinks CBS now is better than STL when he went there.  The culture of losing is so ingrained in Columbus right now that I don’t know what he’s smoking.

Even their high-hopes youngsters always seem to end up overrated or flat-out busts.

I’m pretty sure he’s talking about the Buckeyes hockey team.
