If the Lightning wants to someday add a second Stanley Cup to the trophy case, it needs to make a significant change. Trading Lecavalier would be pretty significant. And as heart-wrenching as it sounds, it's also necessary.

LC’s contract is hefty with a hefty cap hit. Think Ovechkin. If the production doesn’t warrant it for your club to keep, in what scenerio do you not get fleeced for your salary dump? That’s the trade off. Maybe he can trade him to the Islanders or Cats but that’s about it. And that’s assuming they wanna dance. Sometimes, you got what you got so you gotta figure out how to make it work.
