Morning Line- Ted Lindsay

"Alex has earned the right to his fun, he's just won the Stanley Cup and I think he realizes the meaning of that championship. He's as good as anyone in the NHL today. Alex is an honest hockey player who gives you the same effort every night. There are different ways to judge talent: Do you produce every night, or only when you think you should?"

-Ted Lindsay, HHOF member on Alex Ovechkin.  Dave Stubbs on NHL.com has more from Lindsay.

Yeah.

Sure he is.

I find it refreshing to hear a “old timer” like Mr. Lindsay have a positive response to the modern players.
Typically guys like Ted are less understanding of the younger players.

I’m not sure how many of the younger players understand what Ted did in organizing the Players Association, and how that led to the players getting better salaries and treatment.

Also, if Ted Lidsay says that Ovechkin is one of the best players today….well I’ll defer to his assement over random posters on a hockey Blog website. Just saying…

Ovechkin was stapled to the bench for the last two and a half minutes of the clinching game. THAT’s someone who is as good as “anyone in the NHL today”.

He’s not even the best player on his team.

Cool. As an adult capable of independent thought I have the ability to make up my own mind, so I don’t have to defer to anyone.

You should try it some time.

Too bad Ted can’t turn back the clock.  He would certainly be an asset to the Wings management team.  I think Ovi is One of the best NHL players especially in recent years

Ovechkin was on the bench because his team kept icing the puck (which was the right play at the time) and they couldn’t change to get him on the ice. You don’t think Trotz would have had him out there if it were at all possible?

Ovechkin is one of the best. IMHO. I’ve been an active fan since the 60s, and, have watched many great players. Ted Lindsay, on the other hand, has been around for a long time, and, played the game as well. I agree with the man that’s been a part of the game for at least 80 years. Also, I’m thinking he was first player to skate with the Cup around the rink for the fans.

At 32 he’s(Ovie) still got it all going on, he brings it every game. Plus, he’s a great personality as far as promoting hockey. The Great 8 for sure.
