Maybe the last winger to be a face of a franchise and a Cup champion was Guy Lafleur in Montreal and that was more than 40 years ago. And that Montreal team still had Ken Dryden, Larry Robinson, Serge Savard, a lot of faces to go around, only one with hair flying in the wind. The winger named Lafleur.
Ovechkin’s hair is trapped beneath his helmet, so instead, his flying in the wind comes from the way he streaks down the ice, from the way he attacks, the way he leads, the way he changes games emotionally, the way he celebrates like no one else who’s ever played.
Ovie’s game. Ovie’s time. Two games to go. The long wait is almost over.
