Morning Line- Damien Cox On The St. Louis Blues

The Blues are a memorable team to St. Louis, but they’re not a particularly noteworthy collection of NHL players. What they are is a group of athletes who fit perfectly at the right time for a relatively short period. Just like Washington did last year. Just like Vegas almost did.

Very disappointing rhetorics. I feel like he is reluctant to admit the possibility of St Louis offering better hockey quality than more glamorous and more traditional markets.

Not the least bit surprising coming from the Toronto media. They always feel a tad butt hurt whenever a team in “non-traditional” hockey market gets to hoist the Cup instead of an original six team. That bias becomes even clearer when he lumps in Washington and Vegas into the same boat.

The last time the Leafs won a cup there were only 6 teams in the league. Of course their teams were filled with more marquee players. Those marquee players are now spread among 31 teams.

Frankly, this is just embarrassing writing. There is no reason to think the Blues couldn’t be a factor in coming seasons. It’s not like they came out of nowhere to win the Cup.
