More Production Needed From Corey Perry And Ryan Getzlaf

from Jeff Miller of the OC Register,

Corey Perry and Ryan Getzlaf lead the Ducks with 16 points apiece. But Perry has only four goals and Getzlaf just one.

If you had known those players would have those goal totals 20 games into the season, would you have guessed the Ducks would be in a playoff position?

If you said no, I agree. If you said yes, you’re lying.

My working theory then was that this should be an encouraging sign for the Ducks, that, particularly given Perry’s tendency to score in bursts, good things almost certainly have to be coming once those two start producing goals.

My working theory, however, seemed about as appetizing to Ducks coach Randy Carlyle as a plate of cold leftover turkey gizzards.

“There’s no satisfaction in that,” Carlyle corrected. “It’s our responsibility to find a way to get those players going, to put them in situations where they can have some success.”

For his career, Perry has averaged a goal every 2.4 games, which means his scoring rate is about half of what would be normal for him.

Getzlaf is on pace to finish with 4.6 goals, a total that seems entirely unreasonable and not just because of how unlikely it is that he’ll score .6 of a goal.
