This is going exactly as I thought it would a few weeks ago.  The NHL isn’t going to allow the NHLPA to try and sneak in 50+ for the whole bleeping CBA term by using gross dollars, and in order to secure it they are willing to give a little on the contracting terms.

I’d guess the primary contracting term the NHL is willing to move on is the 5 year contract max, which seems like a pretty small max contract window.

The deal to be made is for the NHLPA to take is 50-50 flat, active by year 2 but a waiver in year 1, with some upward shift in max length and a few other ‘in the weeds’ issues.

What Daly is asking for is a pre-condition to negotiating. Accept 50/50 and we will work on eliminating your contract rights from there. Does he realize Trevor Linden retired?
