Minnesota Wild Statement On Mikko Koivu

That’s both Koivu brothers unceremoniously dumped by their lifelong teams.

It sure does seem like Guerin is determined
to disrupt the veteran leadership dynamic.

It was interesting that Elliotte Friedman found a way
of omitting Koivu in listing “current” Wild centers without
getting ahead of this announcement. I wonder if Koivu was
leaning toward coming back or not planning on deciding himself
for awhile. Otherwise, I’d think you’d want to let him make the announcement.
Saying someone is going to be really hard to replace when you showed them the door is kind of an odd juxtaposition.

Who knows whether Johansson will be re-singed
- or flipped to yet another team.

Active GMs are entertaining regardless.

It does make me wonder again about having two assistant
captains in Detroit who aren’t effective players anymore.
They might be very professional in how they conduct themselves.
And it’s not like there is or will be enough talent soon to make a huge
difference. But I’m not sure how many other teams have two official team leaders
who are among their team’s least productive players.
