Minnesota Wild Acquire Nick Bjugstad From The Pittsburgh Penguins

SAINT PAUL, Minn. - Minnesota Wild General Manager Bill Guerin today announced the National Hockey League (NHL) club has acquired center Nick Bjugstad (pronounced BYOOG-stad) from the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for a conditional selection in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft. As part of the trade, the Penguins are retaining a portion of Bjugstad's salary for the 2020-21 season.

Bjugstad, 28 (7/17/92), collected two points (1-1=2) in 13 games with the Penguins in 2019-20, missing a majority of the season due to injury. The 6-foot-6, 215-pound native of Minneapolis, Minn., recorded 26 points (14-12=26) in 64 games during the 2018-19 season with the Florida Panthers and Pittsburgh. Bjugstad tallied a career-best 49 points (19-30=49) in 82 games with the Panthers in 2017-18. He owns 207 points (97-110=207), 198 penalty minutes (PIM) and 681 hits in 439 career contests during eight seasons in the NHL with Florida (2013-19) and Pittsburgh (2019-20). Bjugstad has tallied four points (2-2=4) in nine career Stanley Cup Playoff matches with the Panthers and Penguins.

He played three seasons at the University of Minnesota and notched 98 points (54-44=98) in 109 games (2010-13). Bjugstad tallied 42 points (25-17=42) in 40 contests in 2011-12 and was named to the WCHA First All-Star Team and Second All-American Team. He played three seasons at Blaine High School and was named Mr. Hockey in 2010 after recording 69 points (35-34=69) in 30 games.

Bjugstad has represented the United States at four international tournaments, the 2013 and 2017 World Championships and the 2011 and 2012 World Junior Championships. He was originally selected by Florida in the first round (19th overall) of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft.

Seems like he never really came back from a serious injury
and this is a dump of part/most of his salary with the condition based
on whether he plays for Minnesota a certain amount.

Pittsburgh trying to cut costs and make room and Bjugstad has roots in Minnesota.
