Mike Brown Suspended Three Games

Toronto’s Mike Brown suspended three games by NHL for head hit on Ed Jovanovski.

TORONTO (January 14, 2011) – Toronto Maple Leafs forward Mike Brown has been suspended for three games and will forfeit $8,669.34 in salary for delivering a lateral hit to the head of Phoenix Coyotes player Ed Jovanovski in NHL game #651 last night, the National Hockey League announced today.

Brown’s fine is based on his average annual salary and is calculated under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement. The money goes to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund.

The incident occurred at 19:03 of the second period. No penalty was assessed on the play.

3, 5, 7 games? It’s absolutely right to give him time away as that was CLEARLY a blindside hit. I wish the league had better guidelines on what the punishments would be. It seems arbitrary.

No doubt the league has to give him something.It will hurt the Leafs as he is good on the penalty kill.
