from Ken Warren of the Ottawa Citizen,
Mike Condon had no time for any bells and whistles before stepping into the net for the Ottawa Senators Thursday.
He was wearing a Brand X all-white mask, which looked like it might have been grabbed directly off the shelf of the local sporting goods store.
“We threw a couple of (Senators) stickers on there somewhere,” Condon says. “And my mask guy is on vacation for the next 10 days. I guess I’m going to have to find somebody else.”
In the big picture, it’s a tiny detail in the Senators ever-changing crease.
Condon, 26, certainly had other matters racing through his mind as he flew from Los Angeles to Ottawa Wednesday immediately after being traded here from the Penguins. Adjusting on the fly has quickly become part of the deal in the crazy career of the Princeton grad. Perhaps it only makes sense that he’s ambidextrous, given all the twists and turns and changes in direction he has experienced.
“You guys can look at my (resume) and see how many teams I’ve been on,” says Condon, who is blessed with a healthy sense of humour. “I’m used to the new locker room, the new systems. It’s nice being a goalie. You’ve got one job. It’s keeping the black circle from crossing the red line, so no difficult systems to learn there.”
