Unbelievable, Scotty Bowman in his prime couldn’t win with that roster. AHL backup goalie, overpaid underperforming “Stars”. Matthews and others quit playing and tuned him out. No salary cap to make a trade.

Well, the clock is ticking on the players & GM now.

McKenzie tweet,

It is being billed as an organizational decision. Something that Dubas believed was necessary but fully supported by Shanahan and the Maple Leaf hierarchy. They felt the “message” was not getting through and a new voice is required. Shanahan and Dubas will be speaking to media.

Dubas wanted Sheldon Keefe behind the bench from day one.

Yep, as Elliotte Friedman wrote a number of times,
Babcock absorbs a lot of heat.

Even if you think you have to make this move, and
there are enough reasons to think it had to happen at this rate
sooner or later, it sure doesn’t resolve all of their problems.
It just removes a big name and variable and personality
who was perceived as not buying into the Dubas formula
for roster construction and how to win.

So moving in Dubas’s guy sort of doubles down on that formula
and removes the biggest available excuse.

St. Louis and Boston and Washington, to name three of the more formidable teams, and accomplished teams, are so heavy and physical in addition to deep and skilled.
They have so much veteran leadership. This is really going to test Tavares and Rielly, etc. I wonder if sort of addressing the elephant in the room with the 50 million dollar coach who didn’t see eye to eye will actually make Dubas more likely to pull the trigger on a trade(s) exchanging a scoring forward for more help elsewhere.
And how long do they have now to restart the Tyson Barrie experiment?

Dubas and Keefe were a team here in the Soo with the Greyhounds, looks like they are taking their show to the big time now

Well, Dubas is next.  And should be.  Actually no, maybe he should have been first to go.

Desperation move by the Leafs management.

Now on to Babs watch - where will he go next???

Interesting that they fired him just one whole month before the Christmas trade deadline.  It could mean that there is something else in the works.

From some of what I’ve been seeing, reading, and hearing, Babcock wasn’t giving enough TOI to some of his key young players.  No surprise there, Babcock hates young players.  If he could have a roster full of less-talented vets, he’d choose that every time.

Between that and TOR’s completely abysmal blueline (it’s genuinely awful), this was inevitable.

It sure is nice though that Babcock has been exposed the way he has been.  There’s very little defense of him left now.  No excuses.  He coached his way right on out of the gig he really, really wanted.

Welcome to the Krakens, Babs.

Rain City would be the perfect gig for Babcock, because he’d have nobody BUT vets he can play for a while.  None of those pesky, promising young kids trying to steal precious minutes from career vet 4th liners.

Interesting that they fired him just one whole month before the Christmas trade deadline.  It could mean that there is something else in the works.

They fired him in the middle of a west coast road trip too.
