McKenzie weighs in on Saturday night's controversies

01/19/2014 at 2:14am EST

After a player-brawl and coach-attempting-to-visit-opponents-scrap-filled 3-2 Vancouver Canucks shootout win over the Calgary Flames, coach John Tortorella played it by the book during his brief post-game presser:

He more or less built an impenetrable, "I'm not answering that" and/or, "I won't talk about fights with anyone who didn't play the game" facade (the latter, he did not say literally), with the initial summary of his comments reading as follows (and yes, he blamed Bob Hartley for starting 4th line versus...eventual 4th line):

(he even told the CBC's Elliotte Friedman, albeit politely, to stuff it)

And given that the Red Wings managed to tie and eventually defeat the Los Angeles Kings due to a goal that Niklas Kronwall readily admitted was illegal, I believe it would be wise to allow TSN's Bob McKenzie to offer some words of wisdom:

That last link goes to a 2:18 clip of McKenzie literally phoning in a more fleshed-out version of his Tweets, explaining the context for a highly likely Tortorella fine and suspension.

As for the Kronwall goal, which Kings coach Darryl Sutter lamented to no end, as a Red Wings fan, sure, I know it wasn't a goal, and I know that the utter ridiculousness of GM's and Board of Governors members suggesting that reviewing each and every goal via the "War Room" in Toronto would constitute too many delays and too much time lost reviewing every little discretionary call is galling--honestly, we've seen playoff spots and playoff games decided upon horribly screwed-up "discretionary" decisions, and getting it right is worth any inconvenience to the viewing public--but hell, if it'll get Tomas Holmstrom's former team going, I'll check off the first of a long box of, "This makes up for Homer's butt standing 20 feet out of the crease and yet being told he was bumping Evgeni Nabokov in 2006" boxes.
