Maybe Rick Nash Will Get Noticed Now

from Pierre LeBrun of ESPN,

Now, as he enters his ninth NHL season, Nash finally has a bona-fide, No. 1 center with him. It didn’t take too long, right? Nash doesn’t worry about the past. He’s pumped about this season and playing alongside Carter.

“To get Carter is huge,” said Nash. “It’s what [management] said they wanted to do and for them to do it is big.”

When Nash signed his extension, management made him a promise that they would leave no stone unturned in trying to make the team more competitive.

“The thing with Scott is that when he signed me to a long-term deal, he showed me his plan and what he planned to do to the team over the few years,” said Nash. “He’s owning up to it. It’s what he told me he would do. It’s just exciting to see the owner spending money and willing to bring top players in here to win.”

Kinda Fruedian that you got his name wrong in a story about getting noticed!

I believe he goes by Rick.  Not a BJ’s fan though, so…Meh!

Nash was always the best player on his team, which had to be so incredibly frustrating. Columbus will still probably miss the playoffs, but they might make it interesting this time.

Why do I have a poorer opinion of both Howson and Nash after reading this article?  Isn’t Howson supposed to get the best players to surround Nash with.  Didn’t Nash sign for $8 million per year to play with anyone Howson gets.  He did sign this contract before they got Carter, so why even bring up the fact that the GM showed me his plan? .  Was Nash supposed to OK it?  Think Kenny is showing his game plan to Zetterberg.  Now I know why they are 0-3 and will be missing the playoffs again.

UMM the ONLY Problem is Carter is a Goal Scorer/Sniper not a set up guy

Vinny Prospal is turning out to be more than expected. Carter helps but it’s like having two loaded guns on the same line. Columbus will mess with this cocktail all season. Hell we might see Vermette on the first line at some point and have Carter and R.J. Umberger on the second creating a new threat.

It’ll be an interesting season. It’s too early to say that Columbus will be missing the playoffs. Their roster isn’t complete with Wisniewski out and Mason is suffering because of it. They are just getting bitch smacked into the season. Hopefully this is a reversal of all the previous seasons. Start horribly and finish strong!

Columbus’ organization has been their weakest spot since going live a decade ago. It’s not the lack of a Forward to set up Nash as much as it is the indecision and poor decisions by Howson. Add that to the division where Columbus ended up (one of the toughest in the league, if not THE toughest) and it’s an uphill climb for them to reach the postseason.
