Matt Niskanen Fined For Slashing

If you missed the slash, watch it here.

How many million per year on a long-term deal does Niskanen make?

These two teams are in the same division directly competing for a playoff spot.

This was one of the worst, most flagrant and obvious slashes I’ve ever seen
in many years of watching the sport.

An official was standing so close he bumped into Nyquist shortly after the slash.

These are surely the worst officials in all of sports.
They make the infamous 1980s “East German judges”
look like paragons of integrity and neutrality.

The NHL is a PoS operation.

Anyone complains and they get a fine 5X higher than Niskanen.

And an even bigger suspended fine and threat to that they better not ever question the expertise and integrity of the NHL ever again.

What expertise? What integrity?

Little Gary is like a corrupt tinpot dictator running an authoritarian regime for whom the gravest offense is honest, accurate criticism.

The referee who was 5ft away and did nothing should be suspended from duties for the remainder of the season. The 3 other officials who said nothing should be suspended for 10 games.  George Parros is nothing but a corporate lackey who dispenses punishment with no rhyme or reason.

Amen. I’ve been watching hockey my entire life and I watch a lot of other sports frequently. I’m still amazed at the regularity with which they get stuff wrong.

Ghislain Hebert and Marc Joannette called last night’s game.

It was Hebert who missed the call.

Did Herbert or others on the crew have money on Philly?

He acted like he was checking on Nyquist out of concern
immediately after he obviously saw the slash.

People have to start asking if some of these officials are crooked.
Incompetence doesn’t explain it. Not even close.

A penalty on Niskanen in a game with serious playoff implications
(Philly tied it late and won in OT) is a big deal. He could have arguably even called a major. It looked like an intent to injure slash. Even a minor might have mattered. Sure, the Jackets power play has been pretty poor. But even so, losing a top D for a couple of mins and having to kill a penalty matters.
