from Matt Vensel of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette,
This may surprise you given how well he’s playing here in Canada, but Matt Murray isn’t too happy with his gear right now.
The NHL’s latest attack on what it feels is oversized goalie equipment is requiring Murray and his goalie brethren to strap on slimmer, tighter chest protectors. Allowing an extra goal here and there is one thing, says Murray. His torso looking like a Doppler radar is a greater concern.
“I definitely noticed it, more so in practice than anything else because you get so many more shots. When it’s tight like that, there’s just no cushion. You take the full force of every shot,” Murray said. “It definitely hurts. I know most of us goalies are pretty bruised up. I know I am.”
Mostly in the arms, a little bit in the ribs, occasionally on his collarbone.
