Mark Streit Signs With The Montreal Canadiens For One Year

MONTREAL - Montreal Canadiens General Manager Marc Bergevin announced on Tuesday that the team has agreed to terms on a one-year, one-way contract (2017-18) with free agent defenseman Mark Streit.

Streit, 39, played 68 games with the Philadelphia Flyers and Pittsburgh Penguins in 2016-17. He amassed 27 points (6 goals, 21 assists), including 13 on the power play. He added two game-winning goals and 28 penalty minutes, while averaging 18:45 of ice time per game. Streit added two assists in three playoff match-ups, helping the Penguins win the Stanley Cup.

The 5'11'' and 191 lbs defenseman has played 784 regular season NHL games with the Canadiens, New York Islanders, Flyers and Penguins, contributing 434 points (96 goals, 338 assists). Streit scored 47 goals on the powerplay (207 points), two while shorthanded and added 14 game-winning goals. As a member of the Canadiens from 2005-06 to 2007-08, Streit recorded 109 points (25 goals, 84 assists) in 205 games. He added 15 points (4 goals, 11 assists) in 34 playoff contests.
