Marian Gaborik Signs A Seven-Year Extension With The Los Angeles Kings

LOS ANGELES – The Los Angeles Kings – the 2014 Stanley Cup Champions – have signed pending unrestricted free agent Marian Gaborik to a new seven-year deal, Kings President/General Manager Dean Lombardi announced today.

Gaborik tallied a league-leading 14 goals during the 2014 Stanley Cup Playoffs for the Kings, who captured their second Stanley Cup championship in three seasons.  Gaborik’s 14 goals were one shy of the Kings single playoff year franchise record set in 1993 by Wayne Gretzky.  Additionally, the 32-year-old native of Trencin, Slovakia, ranked fourth in Stanley Cup Playoffs scoring (22 points), tied for second in Stanley Cup Playoffs power-play goals (3), and tied for third in Stanley Cup Playoffs power-play points (8) while appearing in all 26 Kings postseason games.

The 2014 Stanley Cup championship was the first career championship for Gaborik, who rebounded from an injury plagued regular season with a postseason full of clutch performances.

More proof that so-called insiders don’t have a clue.
Remember how everyone was reporting the offer being 3 years for 15mil.

7 years is a long time for someone who is so often injured.

No clue?  They got the cap hit pretty much dead on, I don’t know if having half of it correct is “no clue”.

maybe 1/3 of it, I wouldn’t say half.
In any case, huge difference between 7 year and 3 year deals

Seven years, man.  The money’s about right, but that term is a gamble.

Wow. Yep, 7 years is crazy long but hopefully it won’t be that much of a handicap down the road. Cap flexibility now, and in the future, between a rising cap / trade possibility / return to Europe…or he actually plays lights out for 7 years (hahahaha) we should be OK.

7 years. Wow. Should be a good deal, provided Gaborik stays healthy and is ok playing 3rd line minutes his last couple years. He certainly worked out for him in the playoffs.

If the Wings had inked this contract, I’d be exceedingly pissed.

If the Wings inked him it would be seven years at $7M per year.

come on guys, Gaborik is not going to play for the Kings for 7 years. he will get paid for 7 years, but the added years are designed to bring the AAV down to a manageable number for the salary cap. This also makes Gaborik’s contract more attractive for other teams to take on later in the contract.
