from Mike Chambers of the Denver Post,
Approximately 22 Avalanche players began their pre-training camp captain’s practices Tuesday but center Matt Duchene, who has been on the trade block throughout the summer, was among the few not in attendance.
Duchene, who attended a wedding in Vail on Saturday, was absent, along with center Nathan MacKinnon and defenseman Nikita Zadorov, the latter of whom is unsigned as a restricted free agent. Duchene and MacKinnon were alternate captains last season, when Colorado finished with a league-low 48 points.
Avs general manager Joe Sakic, who has confirmed he is taking offers for Duchene, recently signed college free-agent centers Dominic Toninato and Alex Kerfoot to bolster the position.
“I talked a little bit with Dutchy. He’s not here; that’s not a secret,” Avs left wing and team captain Gabe Landeskog said after leading the 90-minute practice. “But we’ll have to wait and see. As of right now, he’s a part of the Avalanche organization and we all expect him to be here when training camp starts. I don’t really know what else to tell you right now.”
