Luongo And The Playoffs

from Jason Botchford of the Vancouver Province,
Is Luongo a playoff goalie? At times. There was the 54 saves against the San Jose Sharks in Game 5 last year. There was the overtime stop in Game 7 of Round 1 off of Patrick Sharp. There were two shutouts in the Stanley Cup finals.
There was also the six goals he gave up to Chicago in Game 4, the eight goals he gave up to Boston in Game 3 of the Finals, and there was Game 6 in that same series, where Luongo never gave his team a chance.
He is the Jekyll & Hyde of goalies. If he was a nursery rhyme, he’d be the little girl with the little curl. When he is good, he is very, very good. But when he is bad, he is horrid.
He’s dependent on rhythm and has grappled with his head space. There are those long walks along the seawall are about. And there was March, when he needed a week off to reset himself. He was strained and stressed in one of the more meaningless months the Canucks have had in three years.
On a sidenote, Daniel Sedin is out for tonight’s game.

The sooner they play Chicago, the sooner he gets pulled…. again.

On the other hand, they have one of the best backup goaltenders in the league so they’ll probably be fine.
