Losing Streak Hits Eight For The Ottawa Sentors

from Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun,

“It’s a fragile group. I’ve been through this before. Nobody’s feeling bad for us. We’ve got a lot of guys learning things, some veterans finding their way in a new group and we’ve got a lot of moving parts,” said centre Derek Stepan. “We’ve got to start chipping away at little victories.”...

The Senators have so many issues it’s hard to decide where to start.

It was no surprise the club went back to goalie Matt Murray. He went into this game with a 5-0-1 lifetime record in Edmonton, which all came with the Pittsburgh Penguins. The Senators are trying to get Murray back on track because saying he’s had a difficult start to his career with Ottawa would be putting it lightly.

Instead of getting any confidence, Murray headed for the bench after giving up three goals on nine shots and Marcus Hogberg came in to try to clean up this mess but by then it was too late. By the end of the second period, the Oilers were up 8-3 on the scoreboard.

Coach D.J. Smith noted he’s looking at every option now, including giving goaltender Joey Daccord a start but that would require a roster move.

“We have to hold everyone accountable,” said Smith. “I don’t know if it’s fair for (Hogberg), he didn’t get the start and he didn’t get ready to prepare and play. That’s something (starting Daccord) we definitely have got to think about. We have to use every player that’s at our disposal and that’s a guy we have to think about.”
