Holmgren will be next. In a perfect world, this would be like in 2007 when they canned Clarke and Hitchcock and replaced with Holmgren/Stevens. They should replace with Hextall/Berube today and start remaking the roster by getting rid of the Schenns first.

Not sure what the record is for least amount of games someone is fired into a new season, but this has got to be up there

Why/how is it Laviolette’s fault that the GM has no clue what he is doing, has mismanaged the cap so badly, keeps trading away key players, and keeps acquiring players who can’t stay healthy?

RW, I retweeted this earlier today,

According to TSN, earliest coach ever had been fired was 4 games into a season (Savard, Chi, 2008; Hlinka, Pitt, 2000; Demers, Mtl, 1995)

Because he’s refused to alter his system to the players given him by the GM. He wants a certain style and they don’t have the players to play that style anymore once they got rid of the people they’ve gotten rid of. Now, is that really the coach’s fault, no, but like I said above, they should clean slate it.

What a joke.  Holmgren shouldn’t be next, he should’ve been first.

The coach can only do his best with the ever-changing roster he’s given.

Okay, thanks, didn’t see that.

So he in the record books, sort of. Too bad.

So much for my theory that the first coach fired will be the first opportunity for Lindy Ruff to get a coaching job.

You do realize he’s the coach of the Dallas Stars, right?

Holmgren called it a “gut feeling”.  Moron.

Only thing I can figure is he sees his ass on the line and thought if may be able to save himself if he makes a big shake-up.  Or he’s just plain ignorant.

I’m going to go with ignorant though.  “Humongous big” ignorant.

So he’s supposed to change systems every 10-15 games when the GM once again changes the players given to him?

This being the Flyers, do you think they’ll try to put Laviolette on LTIR?

Wasn’t Bill Gadsby fired after 2 games by the Wings in 1969 ? Or was that considered a “resignation”?

Think phillyd’s been pretty much on the money about everything.

For example, I’ve never seen or heard anybody from Philadelphia point to the Schenns as problematic until today, but they absolutely are.

I didn’t realize Ruff ended up in Dallas. How sad. I didn’t realize Dallas was still a relevant NHL team.  Poor Lindy.

Yes and no. The former players, if they’ve gone elsewhere and come back, are ok. For example, Hextall went to the Kings with Lombardi and won a Stanley Cup as assitant GM. He essentially came back to Philly with the exact same role which, to me, says he is next in line for GM and I have no problem with that. Berube has at least coached in the organization, coaching the Phantoms to a pretty good record his only full season there (and they’ve stunk ever since). I’d love to hit the lottery some day and remove Snider from the equation but you are right about he and the fans keep thinking this is the 70s, or even the 80s. It’s one reason I got rid of my season tickets, I couldn’t take the idiocy of the fans in the stands anymore, same mentality when today’s game has changed.

Luke is ok as a 3rd/4th D-man but I have never liked Brayden. If I could trade him for a 6th round pick, I’d do it in a heartbeat. He goes through too many games just coasting out there. The big thing I took away from the press conference is it appeared the players weren’t prepared to play the teams they were playing. They kept talking that they didn’t like the training camp, calling it one of the worst they’ve seen which to me says the just didn’t like the way Lavi was running things overall. Seems like they gave him the benefit of the doubt about last season with it being a shortened season and all and saw after observations of the last month of training camp and regular season last year wasn’t an aberration.

Problem I see with Luke isn’t that he can’t play at all, it’s that a defenseman who can’t break the puck out should be making $2 million less per year than he does. An extra $2 mil…couple roster moves…maybe they can offer sheet Pietrangelo in the offseason. If it worked, that would have solved a lot of problems.

But Brayden is a guy I think is pure poison, dating back to juniors when people were saying he was the best prospect outside the NHL (thought, and said, this was crazy at the time). He’s often floating and his priorities are in the complete wrong place. He’s far more concerned with proving to people he’s a badass (which he isn’t) than he is with either winning or playing smart, simple, by-the-numbers, north south hockey—something he should be able to carve out an NHL career doing, but doesn’t do.

Take that Washington game in the preseason. Instead of trying to get the puck deep, get a good cycle and putting some shots on net, he’s out there trying to teach a rook a lesson for daring to skate on his ice. And, as anyone familiar with Tom Wilson would have expected, he got trashed.

Don’t disagree with any of that assessment. Just think if I had to choose between the two, I’d keep Luke since we don’t really have squat for D-men.

.(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) the problem is that ANYONE who was a Flyer immediately gets a pass from Philly Management, Media & fans. That is why they have to gtfa from anyone having anything to do with the Flyers

Holmgren has been a Joke for a Long time, look at the guys he has traded away & how good that team would be if they still had them all. Or at least most of them
