London Police May Have The Banana Peel Tosser

from Debora Van Brenk of the London Free Press,

London, Ont., police have the name of a person they think tossed a banana at Wayne Simmonds during a NHL pre-season game in London last week - an incident many have said was racially motivated.

“We have information that’s been given to us . . . and that obviously means a name has come forward,” Const. Dennis Rivest said Tuesday.

He said no charges have been laid and the investigation is ongoing, he said.

More than one person who contacted police and the John Labatt Centre, where the banana-throwing took place, mentioned the same name, he said.

Now all the city needs to do is blame all of this on the NHL, and all will be right with the world.

Seriously? Why tip-toe around it? It was clearly racially motivated. Perhaps alcoholically motivated as well. But it was no doubt a racist thing to do…

Didn’t know another tool threw a banana peel also at him, yeesh. Hoping it’s the same guy at not some other idiot.
Weeks idea about plastering this a-holes mugshot around his hometown sounds good to me.
Two different people ID’d the guy already so sounds like they got the guy though the cops gotta investigate it thoroughly still to make sure an innocent man isn’t getting lee harvey oswald’d.

I also agree with Weeks. I’ll take it a step further. Make him/her wear a sign and stand on the courhouse corner. Publically shame them.

I’m pretty sure from what I’ve read elsewhere that it was the same guy who threw the banana peel twice.  Which makes me feel slightly better that there’s only one guy dumb/racist enough to do that.

I say charge him, put him in cuffs for a day and sentence him to community service.  Maybe having to clean the entire arena smile

Man I’m as gung ho about smiting racists as the next person, but how can you ever prove the guy really did it without video?  Especially how will you prove that it was racially motivated?  In the midst of a cheering crowd, anybody could have thrown it.  The best evidence will be circumstantial, and the worst this guy will get is a small fine.

He’s probably a Canadian…isn’t that punishment enough? raspberry
If you really want to punish the guy, give him season tickets to the Leafs!

I’m fairly positive he was not a Canadian Hockey Fan, but a covertly imported, cleverly disguised anarchist who was clearly there solely for the purpose of starting trouble.

The person could have also bragged about it to someone. I believe that is how they caught the thugs that did the Dodger Stadium beating.
