Lightning Preparing To Trade Kubina

via Damian Cristodero tweet,

Lightning D Kubina has been asked to provide a list of teams to whom he would accept trade.

added 12:16pm, from the Tampa Bay Lightning,

Kubina was not on the ice for the team’s skate in preparation for Thursday night’s matchup with the San Jose Sharks in order to “protect the team’s interests,” according to Yzerman.

Yzerman also said that Kubina, who has a limited trade clause in his contract, was asked to submit a list of teams he would be interested in moving to, although Yzerman reaffirmed that a deal was not imminent at this point.

“We’re making our decisions on a player-by-player basis,” Yzerman said. “We see a potential opportunity to improve our club. In regards to Pavel, and as far as any other players or any other opportunity, there’s the broader strategy of wanting to be a better team in the future, so we’ll look at any opportunity to become that.”

Hmmmm. Since we rarely see him, I don’t know a lot about Kubina’s play. So do those who follow the Leastern Conference more have any observations about him.

Faceoff.com lists his assets and flaws as…

ASSETS: Has good size and is incredibly strong. Possesses a heavy, thunderous shot from the point and can be a solid point producer. Can also log plenty of minutes if need be.

FLAWS: Tends to struggle against speedy wingers and occasionally makes critical mistakes in the defensive zone. Lacks consistency in all facets of the game.

Seems like he’d be good “insurance” during the playoffs, and letting him see how the ogan-I-zation operates would give the Wings an advantage on signing him for next season if Stuart leaves (and if he proves to be a good fit).

Lacks consistency in all facets of the game.

That’s a hell of a flaw if you ask me.

If he’s overweight and prone to turnovers he should fit right into Philly’s D corps.

Kubina is washed up.  I certainly don’t want him in DET.

I think he has actually played himself into the conversation, because there was a time it was non-starter, and an anchor contract.  Lean times.
