Lightning send Connolly to Boston, swap Gudas & picks for Flyers’ Coburn

So late-night Twitter is a strange place, and late night Steve Yzerman trades are stranger still. This played out over the better course of an hour:

"Hello, NHL, Colin Campbell..."

"Colin, this is Ed Snider..."

"You traded for everyone, didn't you?"

"Muhahaha...ahem...No, not yet...Here's Ron Hextall..."

Oh, by the way, Gudas is hurt...

Update #2:

Update #3:

TAMPA BAY – The Tampa Bay Lightning have acquired defenseman Braydon Coburn from the Philadelphia Flyers in exchange for defenseman Radko Gudas, along with the Lightning’s 2015 first round and third round picks, vice president and general manager Steve Yzerman announced today. If Tampa Bay fails to make the playoffs in 2015 and ends up with the first overall selection, Philadelphia will receive the New York Rangers’ 2015 first round pick (previously acquired) in the draft in lieu of Tampa Bay’s own first round selection. Additionally, the Lightning have acquired the Boston Bruins’ 2015 and 2016 second round draft picks in exchange for forward Brett Connolly.

Coburn, 30, has skated in 39 games this season with the Flyers, recording one goal and nine points to go along with 16 penalty minutes. The 6-foot-5, 220-pound defenseman ranks third among Flyer defensemen for average time on ice (20:14). Coburn leads Philadelphia for average shifts per game (27.9) this season.

Wow.  I wanted Coburn in Detroit, but to beat that offer we’re talking something like our 1st and DeKeyser.  No thank you.

Tampa’s going to be no joke in the playoffs, though.

I remember when Stevie referred to his scouts when they chose Connolly over Skinner.
I still think Brett can be a good player in this league and maybe even a 20+ goal scorer, but at the time, it seemed everyone was flummoxed by that pick and figured Skinner or Fowler should have been the obvious choice.

Of course, Fowler continued to drop right into the Ducks lap. Still scratching my head over that one.

Glad Gudas is out of the Atlantic.

Brayden Coburn cost this much?

There are no words.

Radko Gudas is a good player. Tough player. He is injured so getting Braydon Coburn makes sense but Tampa gave way too much to get him. Flyers made out like bandits….
Connolly won’t be missed…

Bad trade by Stevie Y imo. Win now trade perhaps my only guess because Gudas is injured but Coburn gives the puck away to much. He should of traded for Grossman instead.
