from Jason Botchford of the Vancouver Province,
The Province talked to 20 players from 20 different NHL teams to ask them about our idea of expanded instant-replay reviews, and whether it could improve the way the game is officiated.
Sixteen of those players thought it could.
“Look at two years ago, when Pittsburgh was (beating) Philadelphia 3-0, that (Danny) Briere goal was way offside,” says Boston’s Milan Lucic. “You take that goal away, and (Philadelphia) probably doesn’t win Game 1.
“With the team that Pittsburgh had, who knows what could have happened that postseason. It’s a discussion and debate we can talk about for hours.”
The idea here is to make just about everything reviewable. Coaches would have their two challenges, and could challenge a wide variety of subjective calls, including offside, goalie interference, hooking and boarding.
