Absolutely the worst call I’ve seen so far this year. Cost the Penguins 2 quick goals, and even now as the makeup penalties come, they’re being played without the Penguins best offensive forward.

Horseshit call.  Hits don’t come much cleaner than that.

Good clean hockey hit.  The refs got this one wrong.

I, personally, HIGHLY doubt that.

As much as I despise the Pittsburgh announcers, I think they were right.  Shoulder-to-shoulder hit.  Helmet came off from the whip around.  Which isn’t to say that he couldn’t have hurt his head on the play, just that it didn’t come from a direct blow or targeted check.

Yup, I don’t agree with that call at all. All the crap the last few days making the refs overly cautious here?

Clean hockey check.

How did we ever get to the point that those are considered controversial?

In real time, I can see how the refs would have called a penalty.  They don’t get the endless replays, but I just can’t see the justification with Letang getting a game misconduct.  Regardless, a horrible call and you would think the ref would consult the others before making that call.

Luckily for the Pens, the won.  I can’t believe I’m excited about them going 1 for 8 on the powerplay but at least the won.  Gogo was a beast at both ends of the rink tonight.

What no love for a redwing of the past?

The only penalty for an illegal check to the head is a major penalty and an automatic game misconduct.

Common sense would seem to say that a ref should have the ability to nullify a game misconduct if a replay shows a bad call was made. I don’t want NFL style review timeouts, but say between periods, ref’s need to review any footage that resulted in a game misconduct. That way, we still have the human element in the game of the refs calling what their instincts tell them (so the 5 minute penalty would stand), but you a team doesn’t lose the benefit of having that player on their bench.

penguinsfan, I say do a video review if the result is a game misconduct.  Heck, by the time the refs talk, get everything on the ice back in order, Toronto could tell them if the call was right or not.

No Penguin announcer ever worked for the Red Wings.

Bob Errey is the colour guy.

That was a terrible call, and they definitely need to institute a replay system like what The Emperor said when it comes to game misconducts.

In real time this appeared to be the right call. Can’t really blame the refs on this one.

All that needs to happen is the four officials come together and reach a consensus. If they can do it for a puck over the glass, they can do it for a major and a misconduct. The ref who made the call has final say.

Good clean hit, Letang caught stretching Comeau off balance and it resulted in such a falling.
But from the first glance it looks like an elbow to the head. Plus, Comeau’s falling was pretty artistic.
Tough call for referee indeed, but replays would definitely help.

I, for one, wholeheartedly support this platform of capital punishment for making a mistake calling a bang-bang play at full hockey speeds.

I’m also fully in support of superlatives and hyperbole, as those two things are the best thing that will ever happen to humankind.

That’s fine and what I figured.  However, the original call on the ice was an elbow and then switched to an illegal hit to the head later.  If you are going to make that call, make it the first time.

I agree with a video replay of all game misconducts.  Like I said, I can see in real time how the ref made that call.  They are human, only get one chance to make a call, and make mistakes.  But Letang getting the gate for that was ridiculous.

It was an incorrect call, but one that was easy to make. Especially when the helmet flies off and the player lies motionless on the ice. When judgment has to be swift rather than corroborated by replay in some shape or form, there will be mistakes when players collide at high speeds.

They shouldn’t, and it wasn’t. Lay off the booze before posting.

Normally I think anything bad for the Penguins is great. This call, however, sucked. Great hit. Terrible call.

Go Wings!
