from Randy Miller of NJ.com,
All the Devils are asking in the meantime is for the NHL to treat them fairly. If those 24 other teams get game action for players following hockey’s coronavirus-shortened 2019-20 regular season, the Devils think that they and the six other teams that didn’t qualify should be permitted, as well....
Executives from the have nots – the Devils, Anaheim Ducks Buffalo Sabres, Detroit Red Wings, Los Angeles Kings, Ottawa Senators and San Jose Sharks – have been working together trying to come up with options that will be presented to NHL officials at some point.
“I know the presidents of the seven teams have been on calls together,” Fitzgerald said. “The GMs, we've all been in touch. There's a big appetite for going to the league and asking permission to have us able to at least have touches with our players.
“Bring them in in any shape or form. It could be a mini camp. It could be rookie camp. It could be rookie tournament. Maybe the Eastern teams get together. Maybe there’s an appetite for all of us to somehow have some sort of mini tournament. But there’s definitely going to be some push from us at least to be able to have the ability to work with our players in a smaller window, whatever that may look like. We all believe it’s not fair that we go nine months without being able to have contact with our players.”
