...Based on the NHL's 30 team rosters as of Monday from ESPN.com, 386 of 602 players (64.1 percent) listed as forwards or defensemen shoot left. Of the 62 goaltenders, only five (8.1 percent) shoot from the right side. "I don't really have any theories," Hall of Fame coach Scotty Bowman said. "Possibly one of the reasons is there are fewer left-handed people in the world than right and if you give an article to a kid starting out, a kid would pick it up with his left hand and that would be that top hand and the right hand would go next." Boston Bruins coach Dave Lewis - a longtime member of the Detroit Red Wings organization as an assistant and head coach - couldn't come up with a rational explanation. "I don't know, I never really thought of it in those terms, of why," Lewis said. "I have no idea."more
