LeBrun: Carolina trades Jussi Jokinen to Pittsburgh

Per ESPN's Pierre LeBrun, the Penguins are apparently acquiring EVERYBODY....

What is it with conditional picks?

Update: Well this is interesting...

Is Pittsburgh hedging on Sid’s return?

“Closed the deal.”  Per McKenzie, the trade call is pending.

This is a depth move for Pittsburgh to add to their PK and strengthen the 4th line, especially faceoffs. Jokinen is close to ` on FO’s, kills penalties, and while still has some puck skills. There was thought they were going after Boyd Gordon, but they were able to get Jokinen for a 7th (essentially nothing in today’s NHL).

Unbelievable.  Bye-bye Kennedy?  Or Glass?

Probably Glass.

I would honestly be surprised if they moved either. I think one will be taking a seat however. I imagine with the recent injuries Shero isn’t trying to subtract to the current roster but add. They still have two amnesty buyouts this offseason if need be to get under the cap next year.

If Jokinen plays 50 per cent of PIT 2013 playoff games AND PIT wins the CUP, CAR gets a 6th round pick from PIT.

So if the Pens make it to the SCF but they don’t win, what does Carolina get? No pick at all? They’re apparently already picking up some of his $3M salary for next year.

This is one of the most one-sided “trades” I think I’ve ever seen. Well, other than the Wings getting Draper from Winnipeg for a buck. smile

Each team only gets two buyouts.  Shero has managed his team and I do not expect that he will buy anyone out prior to obtaining Jokinen.

It looks like it is essentially Shero selling one of his buyouts.

Poorly worded by me - that’s what I meant, really.
