Larry Robinson Is Now A Senior Consultant To Hockey Operations For The St. Louis Blues

(Sept. 21, 2017) – St. Louis Blues President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Doug Armstrong announced today the club has named hall of famer and nine-time Stanley Cup champion Larry Robinson Senior Consultant to Hockey Operations. Armstrong will be available to the media following Blues practice today at Scottrade Center, while Robinson will be available during the first intermission when the Blues host the Dallas Stars on Saturday, at 7 p.m., at Scottrade Center.

Robinson is a highly experienced and accomplished former NHL defenseman, coach, and executive. During his illustrious career in hockey, he has won nine Stanley Cups and participated in 13 Stanley Cup Finals.

Shortly after concluding his playing career, Robinson became a coach in 1993, serving as an Assistant with New Jersey for two years before taking the reins of the L.A. Kings as the head coach in 1995. He returned to New Jersey in 1999 and held several different positions in coaching and management over three different stints with the team between 1999 and 2012. He won Stanley Cups in 1995, 2000 and 2003 while coaching the Devils, and participated in the Stanley Cup Final as a coach in 2001 and 2012.

Robinson played in 1,384 regular season games and 227 playoff games in a 20-year NHL career with the Montreal Canadiens (1972-89) and the L.A. Kings (1989-92). As a player, he participated in the playoffs in every season in which he played. Robinson won six Stanley Cups with the Canadiens and appeared in the Stanley Cup Final again in 1989. He amassed 958 regular season points and ranks ninth all-time among scoring for defensemen. His 144 playoff points ties him with Chris Chelios for seventh most playoff points among defensemen in NHL history. He won the Norris Trophy as the league’s best defenseman in 1977 and 1980 and won the Conn Smythe Trophy as the playoffs MVP in 1978. Robinson is the all-time leader in NHL plus/minus rating with a +730. In the 1976-77 season, Larry posted a +120 rating, the second highest plus/minus rating in a single season ever. He was a three-time first-team NHL All-Star. In international competition, Robinson participated in the 1976, 1981 and 1984 Canada Cup tournaments, where Canada won gold twice (’76 and ’84) and silver once (’81).

Robinson was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1995, and was named one of the 100 Greatest Players in NHL history on Jan. 27, 2017.
