from Dave Feschuk of the Toronto Star,
On a typical evening at the office, there are at least a couple of different types of characters that happen by Ray Ferraro’s work space.
Ferraro inhabits the greatest cubicle in the sports business, situated as it is between the benches of NHL rinks, from where he provides colour commentary on TSN broadcasts. As he does, one of those types of players is likely to carry on a running dialogue with him as the game goes on. Ferraro says Bobby Ryan, the Ottawa Senators veteran, is especially chatty. Ditto Phil Kessel, the former Leaf, among many.
And then there’s another category of player: The guy who clearly knows Ferraro is standing there, but never remotely threatens to make eye contact, let alone small talk.
“That’s fine, too,” Ferraro was saying Tuesday.
It was even fine, Ferraro said, when the NHL player he knows best mostly refused to acknowledge his existence on Monday night at the Air Canada Centre. The player was Landon Ferraro, Ray’s 24-year-old son, a late addition to the Bruins lineup in Boston’s 4-3 shootout win over the Maple Leafs.
