LOS ANGELES – The Los Angeles Kings have acquired forward Carl Hagelin from the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for forward Tanner Pearson, Kings Vice President and General Manager Rob Blake announced today. Also, forward Matt Luff has been recalled from Ontario (AHL).

“Our team is obviously not in a position that we are comfortable with in terms of how we are playing,” said Blake. “This is a change to our line-up that gives us an additional amount of speed. With Carl Hagelin his number one asset is speed and getting to holes, and we think he will play a big role on the penalty kill for us going forward.”

The 30-year-old Hagelin (born August 23, 1988) is a 5-11, 186-pound native of Sodertalje, Sweden who has played in 16 games this season with the Penguins, posting three points (1-2=3), a plus-2 rating and 12 penalty minutes.

Drafted in the sixth-round (168th overall) by the New York Rangers during the 2007 NHL Entry Draft, Hagelin has appeared in 504 games over eight seasons in the NHL with the NY Rangers, Pittsburgh Penguins and Anaheim Ducks. He has 225 career points (89-136=225), a plus-85 rating and 220 penalty minutes.

Pearson has appeared in 325 games over six seasons with the Kings, posting 144 points (69-75=144), a plus-34 rating and 88 penalty minutes. He won the Stanley Cup with LA in 2014, recording 12 points (4-8=12), a plus-10 rating and eight penalty minutes in 24 postseason games that season.

Luff made his NHL debut this season with the Kings. He appeared in three games, going scoreless with two penalty minutes.
