Kyle Quincey Signs With The New Jersey Devils

Newark, NJ - The New Jersey Devils today agreed to terms with defenseman Kyle Quincey on a one-year, one-way $1,250,000 contract. The announcement was made by Devils' Executive Vice President/General Manager Ray Shero.

Quincy, 31, enters his ninth full NHL season after spending the last four-plus seasons with the Detroit Red Wings. He came to Detroit from Colorado, via Tampa Bay, when he was traded twice in the same day, February 21, 2012. Quincey spent three years in Colorado (2009-10 through 2011-12) and skated for Los Angeles during the 2008-09 season. He spent his first three professional seasons (2005-06 through 2007-08) with Detroit and the club's AHL affiliate in Grand Rapids.

In 495 career regular-season NHL games, he scored 30 goals and notched 110 assists for 140 points while accumulating 469 penalty minutes. The left-shooting rearguard has added eight assists and 38 PIM in 54 Stanley Cup Playoff Games. Quincey was originally Detroit's second pick (fourth round) and the 132nd overall selection in the 2003 NHL Draft.

I remember when holland gave him a raise to 4.5 million and then insulted stralman with such a low offer he wouldnt discuss it the following year. Stralman currently making 4.5 and is one of the best dmen in the league.

I think I’d rather be shorthanded than have Ericsson.

Pretty much the same player KH gave 2 years at $4 mil.
I think a guy like Helm could have been easily signed at $2.5 mil for 5 years or $3.5 mil for 3 years. And if he wanted to test the market, KH should have said thank you.

  Friendships last a lifetime.

All the players always say Detroit Red Wings is a great franchise that treats its players the right way. I am glad to hear that, I think it’s very good. But this is still business and apparently what we do for players does not help us to get even home town discounts. In fact we have to overpay to even keep our guys.

He was one of the better and more steady dmen on the team since the last Olympics.  Glad he found a team.

*Notably, he wasn’t great when he came to the team and was paid more than he should have been.*

Good for Quincey; he settled into a role and was about as physical as we had back there.

Maybe Holland can get him back at this bargain contract for a #1 AND a #4
