Devils winger Ilya Kovalchuk will miss Game 2 of the team’s second-round playoff series with the Philadelphia Flyers because of a lower body injury, general manager Lou Lamoriello confirmed.
Kovalchuk suffered what is believed to be a leg muscle injury, or possibly a groin-related problem, and is not with the team. He was examined by a doctor Monday.
“We have left Ilya Kovalchuk back in New Jersey,” Lamoriello said today. “He will not be in the lineup tonight because of a lower body injury. That’s all we will say and he’ll be day to day. There will be no further comments on Ilya’s situation.”
Forward Tim Sestito has joined the team but coach Pete DeBoer did not specify if he would play in Game 2 Tuesday night at the Wells Fargo Center.

He hasn’t been able to skate since midway through the FLA series… cannot say I am surprised. I think that will hurt them… but I am not sure, lol.
