KHL On ESPN?

via RIANOVOSTI,

The KHL has struck a deal with ESPN to broadcast matches from the Russian-based league in the United States, officials said Tuesday.

The KHL covers six countries and is widely regarded as the second-best hockey league in the world after the NHL, which is under a lockout that has brought many of its top stars to the KHL.

The deal covers the “current KHL championship,” the league said in a statement.

The first KHL match on U.S. TV is to be champions Dynamo Moscow’s match against former champions Ak Bars Kazan on Wednesday, which is likely to feature Washington Capitals star Alexander Ovechkin.

The broadcast agreement also covers Britain, the league said.

Two regular-season KHL games are to be played in New York’s newly built Barclays Center in January, pitting Dynamo against SKA St. Petersburg.

I did some additional searching to try to find anything on this from ESPN, but nothing so far.

According to Puck Daddy, the games will be on ESPN3,

If you're not familiar with ESPN3, it's an online streaming service that's currently not available in the U.S. as a standalone digital cable channel.

Hah, the KHL managed to figure out how to become relevant on the “Worldwide Leader” before the NHL did…

Gee. How amazing the KHL gets ESPN telecasts in a couple of weeks and Bettman and his minions can’tdo anything for years.

Maybe has something to do with NBC which is now owned by Comcast which in turn is owned by Ed Snyder who is the NHL team owner of the Flyers.  Something smells rotten about that and many other conflicts of intrest in the NHL upper management ranks.

That is fuching classic and a huge “screw you” to the worst-run professional league in sports, maybe in sports history—-including Donald’s USFL.  Thanks Gary. Ass.

As much as I dislike some of the NHL’s decision making, I wouldn’t go so far as to say KHL on ESPN3 is the equivalent of the OLN/Vs/NBCSports deals either.  ESPN was looking towards the NFL and hockey was never going to be of any relevance to them. If the NHL played in the summer when only basebeall was playing their million games, ESPN might be interested.

You’re right.  It’s better!  No Doc, Eddie and Pee-Air!

I’ll be watching Pav on ESPN3 for sure!

Wasn’t the KHL already on ESPN 3 last year?  I remember watching some of the games on there.
