Kessel May Return To School

It seems Bruins top draft pick Phil Kessel, the No. 5-overall selection in last month’s NHL draft, will be playing at least one more year of college hockey at Minnesota. According to a St. Paul Pioneer Press report yesterday, the 18-year-old center told the Gophers coaches Monday he will be returning to school in the fall, not turning pro. Bruins assistant general manager Jeff Gorton was neither surprised nor bothered by the report, though he said he believes Kessel’s final decision for next season hasn’t yet been made. “We’re sort of trying to figure out what’s going on,” Gorton said. “At this point, he may go back, yeah. My understanding is he’s up in the air and has not decided what he wants to do...."
