Keep McPhee And Oates

from John Feinstein of the Washington Post,

If Leonsis is going to jettison McPhee and Oates — or just McPhee, as seems possible — he should have done it Monday. It isn’t as if he hasn’t had plenty of time to look at his dysfunctional team this season and make decisions about who should — or should not — lead it into the future.

Instead, Leonsis met with McPhee on Monday, slapped a gag order on him, refused to speak to anyone in the media himself and said he might take up to two weeks to decide what to do.

Talk about leaving people twisting in the wind. The Caps haven’t won the Stanley Cup, but McPhee built a team that has sold out virtually every game in Verizon Center the past five seasons. He has earned the right to not be left wondering what his future holds.

But beyond common decency, he and Oates deserve to keep their jobs.

Caps are in a rick nash situation.  Moving him doesn’t make sense on paper but changes the attitude of the team.

Selling out the arena may be an important component to pleasing ownership, but if you build a winning team the fans will also fill the arena.  What could be better - you win, and sell out the arena.

IMO, the Caps will always be the same team unless Ovechkin gets a makeover.

His attitude and way of thinking do not meet that of a captain or even a team player.

The only coaches I know of who could force him to change are Bowman, that won’t happen and Babcock or Hitchcock and that is not happening either.

Also, Leonsis needs to stop thinking AO is the greatest player in the world and maybe show him some tough love.

Preach it Paul.  Agree 100%.  MacLean tried and you see what happens when it doesntbwork.  Someone needs to start making Ovi accountable and the only that can is Ted

Adam Oates is possibly the worst coach that the Capitals have ever had (which is saying a lot).  These guys show exactly why he must go:
http://www.russianmachineneverbreaks.com/2014/04/02/fire-adam-oates-yes-or-yes-or-no-but-cmon-yes/

They also had one a few weeks ago about why George McPhee must go.

Ted Leonsis is a smart businessman, but a complete idiot when it comes to running a professional team, which is why Oates and McPhee will both be back next season.

I was at the very first Capitals game, and I have suffered tremendously for four decades.  I am very close to giving up on this poorly-owned, poorly-managed, and poorly-coached team.  If those two are back next year, I will start the process of adopting another team.  Shanahan was right, this is truly a Mickey Mouse organization, and probably will always be.

I just can’t hurt like that anymore, I care about winning a lot more than Ted does…
