Peter Karmanos has seen enough of the new NHL to know that he likes it. The post-lockout NHL couldn't be any better for the Carolina Hurricanes owner, who ended up with the financial system he wanted and a winning team. "I'd like to be able to discuss the finer points of the game in March," Karmanos said in a phone interview from Detroit. "Usually, I'm too busy chewing my fingernails, worrying if we're going to make the playoffs. Knock on wood, I won't have to do that this year." Karmanos derives almost as much pleasure from his team's success as he does from the foibles of others, particularly those who binged on free agents.read on
