Just The Right Spot

from the Buffalo News,
Gauthier speared Dumont right where the Sabres forward had surgery to correct a sports hernia. He missed 28 games while recovering. "I was just driving the net and his stick just hit me in a good spot, right where I had the surgery," Dumont said. "I just felt burning and cramps and everything at the same time. I felt a lot of pain there. But it went away after about five, 10 minutes. "I was more scared than anything else. I was in a lot of pain before I had the surgery, and I think [the spear] was even worse." "I don't believe it was inadvertent," Ruff said. "But he definitely got him with his stick." Dumont wasn't so sure Gauthier's jab was intentional. "He's got a reputation, but I don't think he would use a stick like that," Dumont said. "It's part of hockey. We go on the ice and play hard."
