Just Like That He Was Gone

from Canada.com,
With the type of speed he normally uses to slice his way up the ice, Ed Jovanovski was plucked off the free-agent market and away from the Vancouver Canucks by Wayne Gretzky's Phoenix Coyotes. Just hours after the NHL's free-agency period began Saturday at 9 a.m., Jovanovski signed a five-year, $32.5-million US deal with the Coyotes. He chose it over a second deal Phoenix tabled, a four-year, $28-million offer. Both contracts easily trumped an offer from Florida. There was no way the Canucks, with their salary commitments, could offer anywhere near that kind of money. They never made an offer.
