FRISCO, Texas – Dallas Stars General Manager Jim Nill announced today that the club has signed forward Joe Pavelski to a one-year contract extension. The one-year contract is worth a base of $5,500,000, plus an additional $500,000 in performance-based incentives.
Pavelski, 37, has appeared in all 56 games during the 2021-22 season, leading the team in points (22-37=59), assists (37) and power play goals (10). Making his fourth career All-Star Game appearance this season, his 22 goals are third on the team as is his +14 plus/minus rating. Amongst League leaders, he is tied for 22nd in points and tied for 11th in power play goals.

Since joining the Dallas Stars prior to the 2019-20 season, he leads the club in points (61-80=141), goals (61), power play goals (29), even strength points (32-59=91) and plus/minus rating (+42). Additionally, he led the team with 13 goals and was tied for third with 19 points (13-6=19) in 27 Stanley Cup Playoff games played, helping the team to their third-ever Stanley Cup Final appearance in 2020 since moving to Dallas.

“Sarah, Nate and I have loved the city of Dallas and the Stars organization since day one,” said Pavelski. “We are very committed to winning here and have full belief in Tom Gaglardi and his family and Jim Nill to give our group every resource in order to do so. We have a great dressing room, and it was important to me, and my family, to show that we are all in.”

In his 16th NHL season, he has appeared in 1,142 regular-season games, recording 902 points (416-486=902). Amongst all-time NHL leaders, he is tied for 52nd in power play goals (150) and tied for 89th in goals. On Dec. 20th, 2019 at Florida, he appeared in his 1,000th career NHL game, and he recorded his 400th career goal on Nov. 26, 2021 vs. Colorado. Additionally, he was named to the NHL All-Star Second Team for his efforts in the 2013-14 season.

The 5-foot-11, 190-pound native of Plover, Wisc. has qualified for the Stanley Cup Playoffs in 14 of his 16 NHL seasons, registering 119 points (61-58=119) in 161 career postseason contests. Among active players, he is fourth in postseason goals (61), tied for ninth in points (119) and seventh in postseason games played (161). His 61 postseason goals are the most ever for a player born in the United States of America.

“In his three seasons here, Joe has proven to be one of the strongest, most respected voices in the dressing room, as well as being one of the most consistent performers on the ice,” said Nill. “He has played at an All-Star level this season, and by signing this deal now, it is a testament to what he sees in this organization and how this organization values what he brings day-in and day-out. He is a true professional, an incredible leader, and an example to everyone in our organization of what the standard is.”

Pavelski has represented the United States four times at the international level. He most recently served as captain for Team USA at the 2016 World Cup of Hockey where he recorded two points (1-1=2) in three contests. Pavelski has skated for his country in two Winter Olympics (2010, 2014) and helped the United States capture a silver medal at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver. Prior to his experience as a professional, he won championships at the USHL level with Waterloo and the NCAA level with Wisconsin.
