Jets’ playoff flight is a short hop

The Winnipeg Jets made a rousing second-half and end-of-the-season flourish to earn a playoff spot, but they've just been swept by the Anaheim Ducks, losing 5-2 on Wednesday night.

Winnipeg's first playoff run involved a lot of fun for the fans leading up to the playoffs, and then a lot of realizing how incredibly hard it is to win in the playoffs, especially against a stacked Ducks team, come playoff time...

But as one of the few folks who remembers the Jets 1.0 struggling to make the playoffs in the 90's and the utter heartbreak that was Winnipeggers losing their Jets in 1996--having seen some of that in person--this adopted Winnipegger is happy to honestly suggest that Winnipeg is going to be back next year.

Maybe the playoff run will be longer next time around, especially if the final remnants of the Thrashers are slowly but surely replaced by Jets prospects

And yes, of course, for those of you who were absolutely *#$%@& over by Bettman pulled the rug from out under long-suffering Thrashers fans (nobody "deserves" to lose a team), I'm sure seeing the Jets get swept away is some small comfort.

It’s not comfort, by any means.

What’s comforting enough, is that the Thrashers’ former owners are, almost entirely now removed from this city for good (NBA’s Hawks and Philips Arena have been sold).

(There are a great many things that went on in this city that was glossed over or completely overlooked by the media that covered the relocation. TAs someone who knows a bit about that, the reason the team was moved had nothing to do with the fans here).

Anyway. Hopefully, I’ll be back in Detroit in time for the season opener. Can’t wait to be back.

Thanks, George. Very true but it was a helluva lot of fun! The team entertained us every night, and not too many fans can say that. These guys really came to play every night. Next year, they’re probably going to have to learn to pace themselves a bit more like veteran teams, and I’m afraid they won’t make the playoffs for a year. Lots of good teams in the Central. That’s how it plays out in my mind, at least.
Appreciate all your Winnipeg and Jet comments. Now, I’m back to watching the Wings again. This Mrazek instills hope, eh?
