The Winnipeg Jets made a rousing second-half and end-of-the-season flourish to earn a playoff spot, but they've just been swept by the Anaheim Ducks, losing 5-2 on Wednesday night.
Winnipeg's first playoff run involved a lot of fun for the fans leading up to the playoffs, and then a lot of realizing how incredibly hard it is to win in the playoffs, especially against a stacked Ducks team, come playoff time...
But as one of the few folks who remembers the Jets 1.0 struggling to make the playoffs in the 90's and the utter heartbreak that was Winnipeggers losing their Jets in 1996--having seen some of that in person--this adopted Winnipegger is happy to honestly suggest that Winnipeg is going to be back next year.
Maybe the playoff run will be longer next time around, especially if the final remnants of the Thrashers are slowly but surely replaced by Jets prospects
And yes, of course, for those of you who were absolutely fucked over by Bettman pulled the rug from out under long-suffering Thrashers fans (nobody "deserves" to lose a team), I'm sure seeing the Jets get swept away is some small comfort.
