Jaromir Jagr Signs A One-Year Contract With The Florida Panthers

04/12/2015 at 1:15pm EDT

Florida Panthers Executive Vice President and General Manager Dale Tallon announced today that the club has re-signed F Jaromir Jagr to a one-year contract.

"Jaromir is a true professional in every sense of the word and a world-class player,” said Owner Vincent Viola. “This signing further shows our commitment to building a competitive and winning team in South Florida. In just 20 games, he has become a fan favorite and we look forward to his continued contributions to our organization.”

Jagr, 43, ranks first among active National Hockey League leaders in points (1,802), games played (1,550), assists (1,080), goals (722), plus/minus (+291) and power play goals (204). Among all-time NHL leaders, he ranks first in game-winning goals (129), fourth in points, fifth in goals, sixth in assists and 11th in games played.

“We are extremely pleased to have re-signed Jaromir,” said Tallon. “He found instant chemistry playing alongside Aleksander Barkov and Jonathan Huberdeau. Jaromir’s intense work ethic and positive attitude has had a tremendous impact on our locker room.”

Since playing his first game with Florida on Feb. 28, Jagr has recorded six goals and 12 assists in 20 games with the Panthers. Over that span, Jagr has surpassed F Ron Francis for fourth all-time in points, F Phil Esposito for fifth all-time in goals, F Adam Oates for sixth all-time in assists and F Alex Delvecchio for 11th all-time in games played.

In all 20 games played for Florida, Jagr skated alongside F Aleksander Barkovand F Jonathan Huberdeau. The three forwards produced a combined total of 54 points (19-35—54) and 138 shots.

Jagr was acquired by the Panthers on Feb. 26 from the New Jersey Devils in exchange for a second-round draft pick in 2015 and a conditional third-round draft pick in 2016.

The 21-year NHL veteran has played for Pittsburgh, Washington, the New York Rangers, Philadelphia, Dallas, Boston, New Jersey and Florida. Jagr notched 15-straight 70-plus point seasons from 1992 to 2008, which stands as an NHL record. Jagr earned 50 or more points in 18 consecutive seasons, before recording 35 points during the 48-game 2012-2013 season. He again eclipsed the 50-point mark in 2013-2014 registering 67 points with New Jersey.

The 6-foot-3, 230-pound forward won back-to-back Stanley Cup Championships with the Pittsburgh Penguins in 1991 and 1992. Jagr has recorded 78 goals and 121 assists in 202 career playoff contests.

Jagr was drafted by Pittsburgh with their first choice (fifth overall) in the 1990 NHL Draft.

On the international stage, Jagr has represented the Czech Republic in five Winter Olympic Games, winning a Gold Medal in 1998 and a Bronze Medal in 2006. He also represented his country at two World Cup of Hockey tournaments, the 1991 Canada Cup, nine World Championships (including 2014) and the 1990 World Junior Championships. Jagr is one of only two Czech-born players (Jiri Slegr) to win an Olympic Gold Medal, World Championship Gold Medal and Stanley Cup.

Between NHL stints, he spent three seasons, 2008-2009 through 2010-2011, with Avangard Omsk (KHL).
