James Wisniewski Suspended Two Games

via Darren Dreger tweet,

2 games for Wisniewski

added 7:05pm,

TORONTO (October 12, 2010)—New York Islanders defenseman James Wisniewski has been suspended for two games and will forfeit $79,268.30 in salary for directing an inappropriate gesture toward New York Rangers player Sean Avery during NHL game #28 on October 11. The incident occurred during a stoppage of play in the first period.

Wisniewski, who was suspended for eight games on March 17, 2010, is considered a repeat offender under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Accordingly, he forfeits his salary based on the number of games in the season (82), rather than the number of days (186). The money goes to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund.

Wisniewski will miss the Islanders’ next two games—Oct. 13 at Washington and Oct. 15 at Pittsburgh. He is eligible to return Oct. 16 against Colorado.

Keith deliberately elbows Salei in the head and gets nothing. Wiz Boy “mouths off” to Avery and gets two games. So did he get it because Lil’ Gary was jealous that one of his new BFFs two-timed him?

All of this punishment/no-punishment stuff would be hilarious if it didn’t make the league look like such a bunch of morons.

Probably cause he went in there and said “Why the F@#$ you got me in here when Hjalmarsson just destroyed Pominville with a blind-side hit that’ll wreak havoc on his season?” What a joke, deal with the real issues NHL.

Selective bunch of idiots in the front office.  I knew nothing was gonna come out of the Keith elbow shot to Salei.

that’s a joke. of course, he had to be suspended probably ‘cause it was another thing bettman had to explain to his daughter and didn’t know how. great.

now if hjalmarsson gets less than six, i’d advise you guys to riot a bit montreal-style.
looks like we’ve really got ourselves the wheel of justice again this season. good thing justicia is blindfolded, right? she’d lose her eyesight in a second if she saw what the league defines as “justice”.

great point by pd’s whysh: FINE players for stuff like that, SUSPEND them for reckless plays that injured others (the body, not the feelings).

and while the league turns a blind eye towards the devils, campbell manages to dish out a suspension for a player whose team’s already decimated through injuries to key players. funny thing that this fact was obviously not considered with that decision.

Fine. It was embarrassing and unprofessional. Whatever.

Howabout you do something about the things that can actually hurt people?

“repeat offender” my ass.

he was suspended for seriously injuring a former teammate. that was appropriate. how is he repeating that kind of offense with his gesture towards avery?

f’ck, the league has to start to distinguish between stuff like wiz did and plays that actually injure other players. otherwise this is gonna keep on being a joke on the term “justice”.
