The situations of the draft picks are listed below:

  • Buffalo will transfer its own Third Round pick in the 2023 NHL Draft to Vegas

If Vegas’ First Round draft pick in the 2022 NHL Draft is a top-10 pick (following the Draft Lottery results) then:

  • Vegas will transfer its own First Round pick in the 2023 NHL Draft and its own Second Round pick in the 2024 NHL Draft to Buffalo
  • Buffalo will transfer its own Third Round pick in the 2024 NHL Draft to Vegas

Golden Knights General Manager Kelly McCrimmon will be available to the media on Thursday, November 4 at 11:15 a.m. ET/8:15 a.m. PT via zoom. The zoom link information is listed below. Eichel’s availability will be announced at a later time.

The 25-year-old Eichel is a veteran of 375 NHL games – all with the Sabres – and has tallied 139 goals and 216 assists for 355 points in his NHL career. He has recorded 20 goals or more in four seasons. Last season, he finished with 18 points (2 G, 16 A) in 21 games, which was limited due to injury.

The native of North Chelmsford, Massachusetts had served as Buffalo’s captain from the start of the 2018-19 season. Eichel has also been selected to three All-Star games in his career (2018, 2019 and 2020) and was named to the 2016 NHL All-Rookie Team. During his collegiate career, he became the second freshman to win the Hobey Baker Award, and first since Paul Kariya in 1993. During his only season with Boston University, Eichel led the nation with 26 goals, 45 assists and 71 points and was named the Hockey East scoring champion, Player of the Year, Rookie of the Year, earned First Team Hockey East honors, was a member of the All-Rookie Team and was named MVP of the conference tournament.

Eichel was selected by the Buffalo Sabres in the First Round (2nd overall) of the 2015 NHL Entry Draft.

Darren Dreger tweet,

The expectation is Eichel will have disc replacement surgery very soon. Recovery time varies. Everyone hopeful he will be back on the ice in 4 months.

WOW, Kelly McCrimmon might’ve developed a little gambling problem living in Vegas that is impacting his work life.  This could pay off huge, but man is this an unnecessary risk to take.  They traded away two productive players with a combined $5mln of cap space AND a 1st,  for a player about to have a neck surgery and a $10mln cap hit.  If Eichel doesn’t return this season, this is an absolute bust, imagine what Kelly could have gotten otherwise with that package to help them this season.  This is rolling them dice for sure!

bold move, but this isn’t the end of the deal. Vegas will still have to clear cap space at some point. Maybe Max Pacioretty is out for the season?

It was gonig to be a crazy deal no matter what but this is at least a little more reasonable than that crazy Calgary scenario thrown out last night.

Still, this is basically a lost year for Eichel.  At best he’d be coming back FROM NECK SURGERY in March.  Which would also be the first time he’d be playing in a year.  Eichel will have little impact on Vegas this year.

In return Buffalo gets, well, a 20 goal scorer, a fine prospect, and picks.  So, they will continue to suck.  I feel bad for Tuch having to go there.

A lot of noise about what turns out to be not much of a deal (I lived through the Nordiques trading of Eric Lindros ) ..glad this story is over…. confused

First rule of negotiating,  start high.  The returns are never what is suggested in media cause they only report the ask, which no one ever gets.

So obviously the Calgary package was fiction, a pipe dream, or leverage, but from a rational minds perspective, I could at least see a team like Calgary making a gamble on a player needing neck surgery.

What is mind boggling to me, is that Vegas is a contender, and they just put their contending status on the line hoping Eichel has not only successful neck surgery, but that he returns to form following it after a year plus off.  I agree with TreKronor, that’s unlikely this season, at least not to elite form.  So they basically burned this season, and then looking forward to next season, where they have screwed their cap situation, meaning they will further diminish a contending roster.  The offset is that Eichel becomes the center piece star and replaces the production of 3 players? Wow, huge risk if he does not.

Really? How did they put their contending status on the line?? They gave up a top 6 winger who he himself has been injured this whole year and a low level prospect in Krebs who is not ready for the NHL. Plus a 1st and a 3rd. WHOOP DE DOO. They didn’t just blow up their entire roster.

Obviously VGK did their research and had access to medical records regarding this surgery. No team would make this trade without knowing the full extent of the injury… I thought in Eichel’s interviews over the summer he said he could be ready to play in a little over 2 months. Its not like the other fusion surgery that BUF wanted him to have

The 2023 third round pick received from BUF is fairly low, but the next two years of the NHL draft, according to draft pundits, is that they are DEEP.  Some very good forwards are draft eligible.

Interesting breakdown of their draft picks over the next few years.  https://puckpedia.com/team/vegas-golden-knights/draftpicks

Vegas is without 1st and 4th round picks as it stands in the 2022 draft.

I hope Eichel comes back 100% and sticks the knife in the Pegulas one more time.
