Jack Campbell May Make His NHL Debut Tonight Against The Ducks

10/20/2013 at 2:52pm EDT

from Mike Heika of the Dallas Morning News,

Stars coach Lindy Ruff said injured goalie Kari Lehtonen (lower body) is not ready to play and will not be activated from IR on Sunday. That means the Stars have a choice between playing Dan Ellis on a quick back-to-back or giving Jack Campell his NHL debut.

While Ruff would not say what his choice is, it’s pretty clear Campbell is playing tonight.

The 11th overall pick in the 2010 draft, Campbell has carried high expectations for a while. He’s been a big game goalie in his career, helping the United States to World Cup gold in 2010 and bronze in 2011. He was named top goalie at both of those tournaments....

In his step up to the pros, he’s been solid. He went 19-13-3 last season for the Texas Stars (AHL) and posted a 2.65 GAA and .905 save percentage. His biggest challenge has been that he’s an extremely high energy player. He works out with intensity, and he plays with intensity, and the Stars have been trying to find a balance in his approach.
