It’s Official- Shane Doan Signs A One-Year Contract With The Arizona Coyotes

GLENDALE, ARIZONA - Arizona Coyotes General Manager John Chayka announced today that the Coyotes have signed Shane Doan to a one-year contract. As per Club policy, terms of the contract were not disclosed.

"We are thrilled to have Shane back for another year," said Chayka. "No one has done more for this franchise than Shane. He's one of the best captains in the NHL and we are lucky to have him."

The 39-year-old Doan registered 28-19-47 and 98 penalty minutes (PIM) in 72 games in 2015-16. The veteran forward led the Coyotes and was tied with the 14th-most goals in the NHL while finishing third on the team in points.

"I'm happy to sign for another year," said Doan. "I'm very excited about the players we added this summer and all of the talent we have on our roster. I'm really looking forward to the upcoming season."

The 6-foot-1, 223-pound Doan ranks first in franchise history in goals (396), points (945), power-play goals (125) and games (1,466). Doan scored two goals vs. the Winnipeg Jets on Dec. 31, 2015 to surpass Dale Hawerchuk's (379) franchise goals record. Doan also became the franchise's all-time leader in points and power-play goals with 2-1-3 vs. Calgary on February 12, 2016. He became the sixth active NHL player to lead his franchise in career points.

Doan, who is the longest tenured captain in the NHL after being named Coyotes' captain on September 10, 2003, is now 22nd on the NHL's all-time games played list at 1,466 career games. He is third among active players in career games behind only Jaromir Jagr (1,629) and Jarome Iginla (1,474). Doan is also first among active players and sixth all-time on the NHL's games played with one franchise list. He was originally drafted by the Winnipeg Jets in the first round (seventh overall) in the 1995 Entry Draft.
