It’s An Outdoor Game, It’s Rivalry Night Too

Feel free to talk about the Rangers/Islanders game or anything hockey related.

One thing I have noticed since watching hockey from the start of the season is many TV broadcast crews do not know the hybrid icing rule.

Below, Jim Jamieson of the Vancouver Province with a video explaining what exactly is hybrid icing in case you are interested.

Don't forget the next Stadium series game between Pittsburgh and Chicago on March 1st.  Get your Blackhawks tickets here.

I tuned in anyway, albeit via other methods (I don’t have cable, so NBCSN is not a channel I get). Mostly for the spectacle, and to snark about the game amongst friends. “Special event” nonse was largely ignored, or snarked about as well.

There were too many games this year, and four outdoor games is too many for next year. I understand the NHL marketing machine wants to milk this for all its worth, but for it to draw in both casual and serious fans of hockey, first and foremost, you’re going to have to ditch the merry band of idiots at NBC.

I’ve watched three of the outdoor games and enjoyed them all.  I had little interest in the one last night though, so I didn’t bother.

Of course, I didn’t have to endure the NBC crew at all, so that had to have added to the enjoyment.
